Early Learning Center Kinder Academy
The inaugural project supported by Philadelphia’s Fund for Quality, this project converted a vacant shoe store on the edge of a struggling commercial corridor into a high-quality center for early childhood education. The CICADA team worked closely with the center’s owner to incorporate design elements that support parental engagement in the classroom, and that make it possible for teachers to spend more time in positive interaction with the children. This acclaimed center serves 150 children, ranging in age from six weeks of age through kindergarten, and their families.
Restrooms in classrooms have Dutch doors, to provide children with privacy from other children while allowing adult supervision. Folding and sliding doors between classrooms can be opened to support after-school activities or special events.
