Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education Master Plan
Can an environmental education center and a charter school successfully coexist on a single site? This Master Planning process engaged stakeholders from both organizations to consider traffic, facilities, and outdoor space needs, and to envision how different site use and development scenarios would address those needs.
When the plan was undertaken, both organizations were sharing the original environmental education center, but this arrangement didn’t satisfy the needs of either organization, both of which needed more space.
The final master plan recommended the relocation of the vehicular entrance to the site to its southwest corner, and the renovation of several vacant, historic structures at that corner to house the SCEE Visitor Center and Gift Shop. An addition to the original Environmental Education Center would allow that building to house the school in its final stage of growth, while still providing space to support visitors to the trails system that winds through the 340-acre site.
