Kate’s Place
As the former headquarters of Emergency Aid of Philadelphia, this 12-story historically-designated brick building as provided a place to stay for those in need since 1927. Today the property is operated by Project HOME as Kate’s Place, providing permanently supportive housing for Philadelphians breaking the cycle of homelessness. To continue serving this mission, Project HOME undertook renovations and whole-building maintenance in order to continue to provide modern, efficient and affordable housing.
Given the historic designation and character of the building, this project involved collaborating with the Philadelphia Historical Commission to assess designs and treatments that are sensitive to the fabric of the original building.
Included in that historically-sensitive was repair of the facade masonry and ironwork, and replacement of the original wood windows with energy-efficient historic replicas. At the interior, each of the 144 units and the common spaces were updated with new finishes, appliances, mechanical units, and fixtures.
